Joy, beautiful spark of the gods! Due to its grandiose choral finale, Beethoven's ninth symphony was already considered unique at the time it was composed - and it still is. For a long time, Beethoven had hesitated with his idea of adding the exuberant verses from Friedrich Schiller's ode “To Joy” for vocal soloists and choir at the end of his already boundless work.

None of the subsequent generations of composers could get past the work of the century. At the same time, Beethoven managed to deliver a universally valid message with his hymn. In 1985 they chose the heads of state and government of Europe as the musical figurehead of the European Union. And it is still true today: Beethoven's “Kiss to the Whole World” gives every day of celebration or joy a unique golden sheen.
