How does JK Rowling pronounce Dobby

No excuse for character death: Did "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling broken with her tradition?

In 2007 the last volume by J.K. Rowling's world famous "Harry Potter" novel series. During the so-called Battle of Hogwarts, there is a final argument between Harry and Voldemort, during which the sorcerer's apprentice can finally defeat the mighty chief villain. Potter fans commemorate this event annually on May 2nd - the date on which, according to Rowling, the battle took place. And Since 2015, the author has been doing her part by apologizing for one fatality on Twitter every year. In the first year this was Fred Weasley, followed in 2016 by Remus Lupine, then Severus Snape and finally house elf Dobby - even if he had to believe in it some time before the great final battle.

This year, too, the Potter disciples were eagerly awaiting who Rowling will dedicate their next "Sorry" to - but in vain. After four years, the author broke with her self-initiated tradition. Or your apology was just a lot more subtle this year, as some fans on Twitter suspect ...

Sorry for Sirius Black's death?

On the social media platform, Rowling changed the header image of her profile to a brightly shining starry sky. Based on this, fans suspected that this could be a subtle "sorry" to Harry's godfather Sirius Black. Sirius is not only the name of the popular character played in the films by Gary Oldman, but also that of the brightest star in the night sky.

But that sounds a bit far-fetched. Also because Sirius Black of course did not die in the Battle of Hogwarts and not even in the last Potter novel "The Deathly Hallows", as is the case with Dobby, for which Rowling apologized last year, but already in volume five, "The Order of the Phoenix".

That's why Rowling didn't apologize

It is much more likely that Rowling's annual apology was simply canceled because she is currently taking a social media break and has not been heard from Twitter since mid-March. This is probably a reaction to the fierce headwinds that met her after she revealed details of the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, which is, among other things, in the "Fantastic Beasts" films.

Did Dumbledore and Grindelwald have sex? That says J.K. Rowling

She said at the time that the two - about whom she had already revealed some time ago that they were homosexual - had a very passionate love affair. For the most part, however, the negative reactions were not related to the content of her utterances, but rather to the fact that she repeatedly reveals details about the world she created, which nobody really asked about.

In January 2019 she wrote on her website Pottermore that there weren't always toilets at Hogwarts, but that until the 18th century wizards simply left where they were and then magically made it disappear:

Even after this strange piece of information, people made fun of the author's urge to communicate, which she had repeatedly experienced over the past few years, and at the latest with the new details about Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship it became a meme that flooded the social networks.

While we cannot say with certainty that Rowling is now taking a social media break and (probably) canceled her apology tradition, the assumption is at least obvious. And it would also be understandable, because who likes to watch people make fun of them every day?

J.K. Rowling is working on Fantastic Beasts screenplay

Another possibility would also be that the author simply doesn't have a head for social media activities because she has her hands full. She is writing the script for the third part of the “Fantastic Beasts” series, which was recently postponed by a year. The official announcement from Studio Warner Bros. only said that "This gives the filmmakers the time and space to fully develop their art" and not what exactly causes the delay, however, it is not far from the assumption that Rowling's script will also be revised again ...

“Fantastic Beasts 3” will now be released on November 21, 2021. You can already see another film from the Potter universe on May 11, 2019: From 8:15 pm, Sat.1 will broadcast “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.
