What is a Salesforce Chatter

Connect tools and automate tasks

Use Salesforce and Slack together to manage your sales pipeline or customer support more efficiently. The Salesforce app for Slack is available for all Salesforce editions (except Salesforce Essentials) and supports Sales Cloud and Service Cloud for both the Lightning and the Classic Experience.

Note:Â We released a new version of the Salesforce app for Slack and ended support for the obsolete version in May 2020.Â

Thats how it works

There are two apps that connect Salesforce and Slack. Each app offers different functions:

Before you can use the Salesforce app for Slack, a Salesforce system administrator must first install and configure the Slack app for Salesforce.

In October 2019, in addition to an updated Slack package for Salesforce, we published a new version of the Salesforce app in our app directory. Slack customers who installed the old Salesforce app before October 2019 can use the steps below to remove the old version of the app and test the new app before installing and configuring it.

Tip: If you've never used the old Salesforce app, continue with installing the latest version of the app.

What you should consider before migrating

Use the following checklist as a guide to ensure a smooth migration:

  • Familiarize yourself with the new Salesforce app and the new Slack package for Salesforce. Make sure that the functions that are important to your team are supported
  • If possible, add the new Slack package to your Salesforce sandbox or development instance and try out the new app in a test workspace. Once everything is working as expected, you can simply repeat the installation steps in your Salesforce production instance and the corresponding workspace or Enterprise Grid org.

Note:Â When you install the new Salesforce app, the slash command becomes/ salesforce immediately linked to the new app. Remove the old app before installing the new app. So there can be no mistakes.

Step 1: Remove the old app

When you're ready to migrate your data, just follow the steps below to remove the old Salesforce app from your workspace:

  1. Visit the (old) Salesforce page in the Slack App Directory.
  2. BesidesÂRemove application, you click on the buttonRemove app.
  3. Then click on to confirmRemove app

If you used the Salesforce Chatter connector with the old version of the app, you need to remove it from your workspace using the same steps as above.

Step 2: Install the new app

Follow the steps below to install the new Slack package in Salesforce and the new Salesforce app in Slack.

Step 3: End the migration process

After you've removed the old Slack app, installed the new app, and added the new Slack package in Salesforce, there are two final steps left to complete the migration:

  1. Uninstall the outdated Slack package, ÂSlack Essentials Packaging Org version 1.7, in Salesforce
  2. Let members know that they can link their Slack accounts to the new Salesforce app by using the slash command in the action menu/ salesforce search and select. The Salesforce app then asks you to click the button for authenticationConnect to click

Â

Salesforce system administrators can visit Configure Salesforce for Slack to install the Slack package in Salesforce, configure standard and custom objects, set user permissions, and so on. Once that's done, members can do the following to install the Salesforce app in Slack or connect your accounts if the app has already been installed in your workspace.

Tip: If you're on Slack's Enterprise Grid plan, you can install the Salesforce app at the org level and add it to any workspace that needs access to Salesforce from the admin dashboard.

Â

Check with a Salesforce system administrator to ensure that the Slack app for Salesforce has been installed and properly configured before installing the Salesforce app on your Slack workspace.

  1. Visit the Salesforce page in the Slack App Directory.
  2. Click on Add to Slack.
  3. You will be redirected to the landing page of the Salesforce app. Click there Add to Slack.
