Powell supports Trump rival Biden

Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell - a Republican like President Donald Trump - wants to vote for Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election. He did not vote for Trump last time and will "certainly not support him this year," Powell said on CNN. Instead, he will cast his vote for Trump's rival Biden.

"We have a constitution, we have to respect the constitution. And the president has turned away from it," criticized Powell. At the same time, the former chief of staff stressed that Trump was lying "all the time". "I would never have used that word for any of the four presidents I worked for," said the 83-year-old. He also accused Trump of dividing both nationally and internationally.

Powell appealed to the Americans: "Think about it, use your common sense and ask yourself: is this good for my country?"

Trump responded promptly ...

... to Powell's remarks and referred to his appearance before the UN Security Council in 2003, where the then foreign minister had presented alleged evidence of weapons of mass destruction which the leadership in Baghdad did not even have in order to justify the US invasion of Iraq.

"Didn't Powell say Iraq has 'weapons of mass destruction'?" Trump tweeted. "They didn't have any, but we went to war."
